“I started writing The Brothers Bloom in Brooklyn in February of 2005, and completed the script in January of 06 in Los Angeles.
It was originaly called “Penelope,” a name I still prefer, but we had to change the title when another film beat us to it.
This is the original shooting script, and bears some differences from the finished film. The most obvious of these are in the final act, although tonally I think the script in general is a bit darker and more melancholy than what came out on the screen. We did shoot everything in the screenplay, and many of the excised scenes are included as bonus features on the DVD. The commentary track gives a good overview of why what was changed was changed.
I’m providing the script in PDF form for the curious.
Enjoy it, pass it around, act it out around the fireplace with your friends. Just don’t make any money off it without letting me know. (Mostly because I’d be fascinated to hear how you managed to make money off it.)”

“Failure” - Kings of Convenience

I don’t know about you, but it could seem little odd that my first blog post ever starts with a song called “Failure.” Ha.

It’s a great song by Kings of Convenience, of course. And the melody captures this moment - where I am sitting here, tattooed to my laptop, and attempting to type some mundane nonsense that will be added to the abyss of addictively modifiable information (AKA the Internet).

But the meaning…Why is “Failure” popping into my brain now? I’m perfectly uninspired, lazy, and (frankly) bored. But, I believe great music is complexity wrapped up in simplicity; those complex parts are inherently interconnected and inseparable. So in this moment for instance, “Failure” appeals to me for its clement tune, rain-like rhythm, and soft Norwegian-y accented vocals. But also for the words and their meaning.

Failure is always the best way to learn,
retracing your steps until you know,
have no fear your wounds will heal.

So maybe this is my rallying call. Maybe this song came to mind to encourage me to continue typing quirky musings because I know that my ramblings are vastly inferior to great thinkers, writers, philosophers, and intellectuals. Hence, “Failure.” HA. Oh boy.

Like the other >6 billion of us, I’ve got a lot of soul-searching to do - retracing my steps from the past, figuring out where I’m at now, and stepping confidently into the future. I only hope to be. That is, to live as my true self. This self thinks too much lol.

This is me in “blog” form. Please, run away.
